In My Room

Jennifer Balcombe

Through a series of portraits and interviews this project is an exploration into the lives of teenage girls growing up in the Noughties. Each person is photographed in her room, the most personal of spaces and asked her opinions on growing up and the world around her. In a society where it seems that teenage girls are either portrayed as victims of sexualisation or as a symptom of 'broken Britain' by the media, this project aims to show young women simply as who they are and what they think.

Jennifer Balcombe is a photographer based in London. Her work predominately focuses on social issues, including working in the Middle East with Medicines Sans Frontiers. Jennifer's work is deeply rooted in portraiture and capturing the essence of her subjects.
